Dental plaque is a soft deposit that forma a layer of biofilma containing bacteria and cling tightly to the tooth (Haake, 202). Until now, the plaque is still considered the main cause abnormal periodontal (gingivitis), in addition it can also facilitate the occurrence of plaque in dental caries (Caranza and Newman, 2002). Dental plaque is usually colorless so that the necessary plaque coloration, commonly used and sold in the market “disclosing solution”. But now it is sifficult to find it and expensive, mangosteen rind is an alternative material, easily available and cheap. According Samsudin and Khoirudin (2007), mangosteen rind can be used as natural food colorants. This research is to investigate the acceptability of sample against mangosteen rind and to explore ability of manosteen rind as plaque coloration. This research is experiment, population is Semarang polytechnic student amount 274 people, using random sampling techniques is obtained as many as 30 people. Each sample was treated using a plaque coloration (mangosteen rind and disclosing solution). Normality of data is tested with Kolmogorov Smirnov, to compare the ability of manosteen rind with a disclosing solution as the plaque coloration used Independent T-test with SPSS version 11.5 for Windows. The results show that at 95% confidence level,α>0.05, p value=0.82, so Ho is accepted and Ha is rojected, it means that the mangosteen rind has the ability as a plaque coloratio and there is no significant difference between the ability to mangosteen rind and disclosing solution. Most sample (17 org, 56.67%) has received mangosteen rind with category “not good”,if you wan to use the manosteen rind as a plque coloration, required additional ingredients to use the mangosteen rind as a plaque coloration, required additional ingredients to improve flavor, texture and taste.
