Influence of Support Against Childbed Maternal Behaviour in Giving Breasttmilk
Almost every Indonesian mother breastfed their baby, only 15,4% mothers in cities and 18% in rural exclusively breasfed their babies up to 6 months. WHO-UNICEF recommends developing a supprting group in the community who will assist a childbed mother for successfully breastfeeding. A quasi experiment was held in Kebayoran Lama Utara, sub district of Kebayoran Lama Jakarta selatan, and 30 childbed mothers participated in this study. They were devided into two groups; treatment and control consist of 15 mothers each. The treatment group received breastfeeding supporting group assistance which was consultation on breastfeeding advantages, breasteeding technique and motivation, while the control group received information on breastfeeding advantages. During 40 days of the study,treatment group were observed aach 10 days, while the control group were observed twice at the beginning and at the end of the study. The decrease of motivation and exclusive breastfeeding practice was observed at the first 10 days of study. There were significant differences in exclusively breast feeding practices and motivation between the two groups. The treatment groups were better in motivation and breastfeeding practices. The difference was influence by breastfeeding support group activities
