Bacteria play an important role in the formation of plaque. Prevention of plaque accumulation is necessary in order to maintain oral health. One way tonprevent the accumulation of plaque by brushing teeth using toothpaste containing antibacterail. Herbs taht are antibacterial is a betel leaf and turmeric that contains essential oils. The purpose of this study is to obtain the volume mixture composition of pure extract of betel leaf and turmeric as toothpaste preparations to reduce plaque formation. The hypothesis of this research is the mone bulanced composition of the volume of beted leaf and turmeric extracts in toothpaste stocks the greater the ability to reduce plaque formation. The design of this study was quasi experiment. The materials used are the betel leaf extract, turmeric extract and the constitment ingredients of toothpaste. The samples were boarding school students as much as 27 which is into 3 treatment groups. Distibution of treatment grouos based on the compostion of the mixture volume of pure extract of betel leaf and turmeric in toothpaste. Sample brushing your teeth using toothpaste (suitable group) twice a day and conducted over 2 days. Examination of plaque index 4 times. Changes in plaque index was calculated and data were analyzed using one-way Anova (α=0.05) and continued with LSD 0,05. The results showed that the biggest chang in plaque index after brushing your teeth on the first day was the doasge of toothpaste at 0.3 A(43.33%). While on the second day of the biggest changes in plaque index was als in toothpaste perparations A, namely 0.11 (39.22%). Statistically there was no significant difference (p=0.07). The conclusion of this research capability among the stocks toothpaste to reduce plaque formation was significantly different (p=0,015) after the use of on day two. Toothpaste preparation A and B are able to reduce plaque formation both on first day and twice day.
