The Treatment of Vaginal Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions : The Choice of Modalities and its Complication (Pengobatan Lesi Intraepitel Skuamosa Vagina: Pilihan Cara dan Komplikasinya)
Objective of this study is exploring the clinical experience of treating the vaginal squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL) using several modalities. A prospective study has been done and the X2 test was used in this study was held in authors private colposcopy clinic for over 5 years since January 1, 1990 until December 31, 1994. Burning sensation, itching, and leucorrhea has been found in 35.7 percent of cases. Fifty seven point one percent cases has been found mostly at upper 2/3 of the vagina (p less than 0.05) and white epithelium is the upmost findings of the low grade lesion (p less than 0.05). In 33.3 percent of cases suffer from vaginal edemas, hyperemias, vesicles, and ulcerations after applying the 5 fluorouracil (5 FU). On 4 cases who were treated with CO2 laser vaporization and the only one case treated with loop excision diathermy, no complication has been found. Conclusions : treatment of vaginal SIL is higly depend on its opography. Application of 5 FU served a fair result but care should be taken of its complication.
