Androgens Therapy in the Aging Male (Terapi Androgen pada Pria Lanjut Usia)
Many publications report on the incidence of decreased testosteron concentration in aging male. Several researchers insist however that the total concentration of testosterone does not decrease due to aging male in really healthy males. And yet all agreed that the free testosterone concentration is biological parameter generally regarded to reduce with aging male. The indication is for giving androgen to aging males due to androgen deficiency. Androgen deficiency in aging male is defined as being marked by conditions of asthenia, reduced muscular and bone mass, osteoporosis, decreased libido and impotency. The androgens preparations used are testosterone undecanoate and testosterone enanthate. Androgen treatment affects metabolism and other organs. The greatest risk in giving androgen is mainly in the lipid metabolism and prostate, and for that reason androgen therapy for aging male requires the cretain criteria and well regulated monitoring.
