Loaded Liposomes as a Progress of Cosmeceuticals Technology for Aging Skin (Loaded Liposome sebagai Salah Satu Bentuk Kemajuan Teknologi Cosmeceuticals untuk Antisipasi Penuaan Kulit)

Phenomenon related to skin aging among others are wrinkles, increase in dryness of the skin, decrease in skin flexibility, elasticity and smoothness of the skin. The skin's most important role is its function as a barrier to prevent water loss, electrolyte and skin component loss, as well as to prevent the absorption on injurious substances. Therefore, keeping the correct balance of water in the skin is a correct way to keep the skin healthy and young. As the knowledge of skin microstructure increases, the progress of technology in cosmetic and pharmaceuticals fields are also increasing, among others are the invention of skin moisturizing system with phospholipids in the form of liposomes which are biocompatible and biodegradable. Liposomes, as water vehicles only (empty liposomes) can penetrate the skin as a moisturizer. Liposomes can also be loaded with active agents useful for the skin (loaded liposomes).
