Konsentrasi Blood Manganese (MnU)dan Urinary Maganese (MnU0 pada Pekerja Pengelasan
Mild steel MMAW (Manual Metal) Arc Welding) is a common method to join metals permanently. This process produces manganese fume. Menganese is an essential element with hazardous effectto central nervous system if inhaled in excessive concentration. The aim of this study was to assess blood manganese (MnB) and urinary menganese (MnU) in 19 MMAW welders and 19 unexposed controls, which were equivalent in smoking habit and cefeine and alcohol consumption. MnB and MnU were analyzed using graphite furnace Atomic. Absorption Spectrophotometer, while airbome manganese (MnA) was analyzed using flame ionization Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer dan Neutron Activation Analysis. MnB in welders and controls renged between 0,0029 µg/ml-0,0369 µg/mL, statistically significant higgher than mean of MnB in controls and higher than normal MnB. While range of MnU in welders and controls are respectively 0,00032 µm/mL, and 0,00024 µg/mL-0,0105 µg/mL. The mean of MnU in welders was 0,0042 µg/m statistically sigficant higher than mean of MnU in controls and higher than norrmal NnU. The MnA mean levels of welders and controls were respectively33, 684 µg/m³ dan 0,401 µg/m³, lower than its Ministry of Manpower standar and ACGH TLV. There was sligh corrrelation between MnA and MnB, and there was litte or no correlation found between MnA and MnU. The risk of welders in having MnB above normal was 2.5-fold than control, and 2—folg than controls in having MnU above normal. The result seemed to indicate that MnB and MnU can only be used in assessing manganese exposure in group basis not in individual basis.
