The Use of GnRH Agonist and Antagonist as a Male Hormonal Contraceptive (Penggunaan GnRH Agonis dan Antagonis untuk Kontrasepsi Hormonal pada Pria)
GnRH is a decapepride that is synthesized in the cell bodies of the hypothalamic neurons and secreted directly into the hypophysioportal circulation. On arrival at the anterior potuitary gland, GnRh selectively stimulates the gonadotrophin cells to release the LH and FSH. Both hormones regulate and maintain the function of spermatogenesis. Treatment with GnRH agonists or antagonists are able to suppress serum LH and FSH in normal men. Further more can be decreased biosynthesis and secretion of intratesticular testosterone. This conditions cause suppresion of spermatogenesis, in form oligozoospermia and azoospermia. Thus, the GnRH analog is safe, reversible, and potent suppressor of LH, FSH and testosterone intratesticular. These information, suggest that administration of GnRH antagonist may prove to be an effective and reversible male contraceptive.
