Pengaruh Latihan Relaksasi Otot Progresif terhadap Penurunan Tekanan Darah Klien Hipertensi Primer
Abstract: Progressive muscle relaxation is one of non-pharmacological therapies to relaxing muscles and reduce anxiety so make lowering blood pressure in clients with primary hypertension. The purpose ofthis study was to identify the effects of progressive muscle relaxation exercises to decrease blood pressure for clients with primary hypertension in M a .Iang. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a consecu¬tive sampling. Sample size was 40 respondents, divided into two groups: treatment and control groups. The treatment group received progressive muscle relaxation exercises for 15 minutes each time, twice a day and conducted for six days. The blood pressure measurements was obtained for both groups before and after on day 11, IV and V]' The results showed that a decrease ofsystolic blood pressure is 16.65 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is 3.8 mmHg occur after exercise. The conclusion a progressive muscle relaxation exercise can significantly reduce systolic blood pressure (p value ~ 0.0075; a ~ 0.05), on the other hand, there is no reduced blood pressure significantly (p value ~ 0.058, a ~ 0.05) in diastolic blood pressure. Some recommendation is directed to the Head of Community H~alth Centerto develop a policy regarding implementation of progressive muscle relaxation as well as to nurse clinician to apply progressive muscle relaxation as one of standard operating procedure in reducing blood pressure, to develop a ~elaxation clinic and include material in the curriculum in nursing education institutions.
