Hepatocyte transplantation: a promising potential therapy for liver cirrhosis
Cirrhosis hepatic is recognized as one of the leading cause of deaths. This end stage liver disease, not only causes morbidity and mortality, but also brings big economic loss. In cir¬rhosis, due to hepatocyte death, liver tissue will be replace by fibrosis and loss its function. Once enter this stage, liver damage cannot be reversed even though the causes have been eliminated .. Standard therapy for cirrhosis until now can only delay progression and reduce complication. In other hand, liver transplant offers a definitive therapy for this di¬sease, but this treatment has major challenges such as shortage of organs, the high cost, technical difficulties of procedure and the intensive post-operative care. After many years of research, liver cells transplant has been suggested as an alternative definitive therapy for liver failure. Potential advantages of hepatocyte transplant include a simpler, safer, and less cosily procedure compare to liver transplantation.
