Awal Pandemi Influenza A (HINI) 2009 Sebuah Tinjauan
In mid-March 2009, individual and cluster cases of unusual influenza-like-illnes (ILI) were reporter in Mexico and the UnitedStates. Laboratory tests revelaed that the etiology of those infections was a new strain of influenza A (HINI) virus. This novel virus was initially named Swine Flu, then Mexican Flu, novel A (HINI) 2009, and finally was officially termed as Pandemic Influenza Virus A (HINI) 2009 by the WHO. This virus is able to transmit effectively from human-to-human, and spread to more than 80 countries in a relatively short time, prompting the WHO to increase the pandemic preparedness level from three to four, five, and finally six, which means a full blown pandemic. To anticipate the spread of the new virus in Indonesia, the Department of Health has started with a strategy of seven steps, i.e, thermal scanning at international airports, activating influenza and pneumonia sentinel surveillance, stockpiling of antiviral drugs, preparing and activating hospitals and laboratories, information dissemination and preparation of Desa Siaga, and pandemic simulation. However, with the continuing spread of the virus in several provices in Indonesia, the government needs to change the strategy into mitigation efforts.
