Situasi Mikroskopis Malaria di Berbagai Laboratorium Daerah Endemik, Tahun 2006
At present malaria diagnosis was based on clinical sign and symptoms confirmed with microscopy examination. Since Plasmodium falciparum was resistance to one or more/multi-drug and spreading out almost all over the country, and P. Vivax resistance occurred in everal endemic areas, the need of acurancy of the diagnosis was becoming increasingly important. The paper discusses malaria laboratory situation analysis in two endemic areas. Two endemic areas representing Westem Part of Indonesia (Lampung and East Nusa Tenggara Province) were selected. The respondents were laboratory microscopist from Province Health Laboratories, Province Hospital. District Health Offices, District Hospital and Primary Health Centers. In general most malaria microscopist in both provinces had sufficient laboratory knowledge, except in Province Hospital laboratories. The East Nusa Tenggara Province Hospital Lampung District Health Office and Health (HC) laboratories had not enough high and space to work, nor running water supply. The Guideline manual for malaria examination is very limited and only available in HC. Cross check mechanism did not work well due to budget limitation. It was conclude that the skill and capability of the malaria microscopist in the provinces were verying and have not met administrative level of the laboratory yet. Cross check mechanism did not performed well, and the situation as well as condition of most laboratories were notfavorable to work. We suggest that improvement of the skill and capacity of the malaria microscopist should be done periodically manwhile, laboratory conditions as well as cross check mechanism should also be improved to maintain the quality of the examination results.
