Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI) is one among the top rank diseases in Puskesmas Kelurahan Joglo 1 in the year of 208. Within the working area of Puskesmas Kelurahan 1 overcrowing is estimated to be 60% whereby which-ch there are still many small houses occupled by many family members. The risk of getting ART among children under 5 years who live in over crowded houses 1,2 times higher than children under 5 years who do not live in overcrowed houses. This research is conducted to determine the association between house overcrowding and ARTI, magnitude of overcrowing, and the number of people who suffer from who life in overcrowded houses within the working area of Puskesmas Kelurahan Jogli1. The type od study conducted is analytical cross sectional, among 154 subjects all ages who visit general polychlinic and live within the working area of Puskesmas Kelurahan Joglo 1 during 12-14 January 2009. Sample collection is done using purposive non-random sampling and subjects are interviewed using questionnaires regarding number of occupants, floor area of the house, history of chronic cough as well as history of smokers in the house. Among 154 subjects, there are 42 (27,27%) children under 5 years, 20 of whom (47.625) live in overcrowded houses and 12 (60%) suffer from ARTI. Whereas among 58 subjects who live in overcowded houses, there are 41 (70.69%) who suffer from ARTI.
