Leukocyte Adherence Inhibition Test (LAIT) for Assessment of Cellular Immunity in Plasmodium berghei ANKA-Infected Mice (Uji Hambat Adhesi Leukosit (UHAL) untuk Menilai Imunitas Selular : Pengamatan pada Mencit Terinfeksi Plasmodium berghei ANKA)
Cellular immunity can be assessed by various techniques unfortunately, all requires incubation in a sterile environment for a few days. An alternative was developed by investigators, which used the ability of a lymphokine, secreted by immunocompetent cells in contact with a recognized antigen, to inhibit leukocyte adhesion onto a surface. Using splenocytes from Plasmodium berghei ANKA infected mice as effectors and crude Plasmodium berghei ANKA extract as antigens, it was demonstrated that LAIT could assess cellular immunity, because it was specific to the antigens; the magnitude of the reactions were dose-dependent.
