The Effect of Spring-cucumber Fruit Extracts through the Cholesterol and Glucosa Level of Mice (Pengaruh Ekstrak Buah Pare (Momordica charantia L.) terhadap Kadar Kolestrol dan Gula Darah Mencit)
A study on the effect of in spring-cucumber fruit extracts (Momordica charantia L.) was conducted on the cholesterol and blood sugar of a male mice. The ectract was obtained by sochlet of dry pollen of spring-cucumber fruits using 95 percent ethanol at 50-60 degree C for 4-5 hours. The extract was given orally (once a day) for 40 days to the three treated groups (T2:250 mg/kg BW, T3:500 mg/kg BW, T4:750 mg/kg BW) while the suspension of 1 percent CMC (carboxy methyl cellulose) was given to the control group (T1). The study showed that spring-cucumber extract could decrease the cholesterol and blood sugar (level). It was concluded that the reduction may be increased by the rate of cell metabolism by the increased the uptake and utilization of glucose by target cells and may have an antidiabetical effect.
