The Study of Anemia on Primary School Pupils (Studi Anemia pada Anak Sekolah Dasar)
Health and nutritional status of primary school children are factors determining the quality of human resources in the future. A cross sectional study was conducted at Kecamatan Curug Kabupaten Tangerang. At the beginning 1,288 primary school children, grade III, IV, V from 9 schools were screened. Among them 193 children (15 percent) suffered from anemia. Five children (2,6 percent) among the anemic cases were children with Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA). Screening was also done at Kecamatan Tiga Raksa, eleven (5.42 percent) out of 203 children were anemic. One of them suffered from IDA, five were thalassemia trait. Energy and protein consumption below 80 percent was found in respectively 114 (82.6 percent) and 66 (47.8 percent) of the children. Not much variation in the food pattern was found in 0 percent of the school children. All of the children suffered from mild worm infections. The educational level of the mothers was significantly associated with knowledge of nutrition and sanitation condition. Significant association was found between Hb level and iron consumption. In the future, the thalassemia factor should be controlling anemia.
