The Given of Granulocyte Monocyte Stimulating Factor on Patient with Chemotherapy : Preliminary Report (Pemberian Granulocyte Monocyte Colony Stimulating Faktor pada Pasien yang Tengah Mendapat Khemoterapi : Suatu Laporan Pendahuluan)
Myelotoxicity secondary to treatment of malignancies with chemotherapy/radiation therapy gives rise to infection which can be fatal. GM-CSF is a hemopoeitic growth factor that regulates growth and function of granulocytes (neutrophyl and eosinophyl), and monocytes/macrophages. Four hundred u micrograms of GM-CSF (leucomax) is given subcutaneously in five consecutive days to eight cases of acute leukemia and two cases of non Hodgkin lymphomas. All cases were in leucopenia state, with less than 1000/mm3 leucocytes accompanied with septic syndromes. In eight of them, the septic syndromes were associated with bronchopneumonia. Nine cases received 5 days GM-CSF treatment except for case no. 2 which only got 2 days. This is because on day 2 the leucocyte count had exceeded 1000/mm3. All cases recovered from the infection with adequate antibiotics.
