The Use of Asorbed Threads on Arterio Venous Shunt Surgery (Pemakaian Benang Diserap pada Operasi 'Arterio-Venous Shunt')
Two monofilament suture-materials that recently introduced, Polydioxanone (PDS II,7-0, Ethicon) and Polyglyconate (Maxon CV, 7-0, Davis
Geek) have been represented as low reactivity absorbable alternatives, 22 arterio-venous side-to-side anstomoses using those surgical threads were performed at upper extremity for patients requiring a permanent vascular access for chronic hemodialysis, 14 of the procedures were using Polydioxanone and 8 with Polyglyconate suture materials. During a postoperative period of 3 months they were showed no leakage rupture, no aneurym, and no occlusion. This is the same with the results of other 28 arterio-venous side-to-side anastomoses for hemodialysis access using non absorbable Polypropylene (Prolene, 7-0, Ethicon). The advantages, all Polydioxanone and Polyglyconate suture materials are completely absorbed in due time, and the market price is relatively economical. But these 7-0 absorbable sutures are felt more delicate and need more gently in handling them.
