The Use of Antimalarial and Tuberculosis Agents at 8 Districts in Musi Rawas, Lubuk Linggau (Penggunaan Tuberkulostatika dan Antimalaria di 8 Kecamatan Kabupaten Musi Rawas, Lubuk Linggau)
Accurate information about drug use in the community has three main applications. Firstly, audits of prescribing patterns can be conducted, perhaps to assess their appropriateness. Secondly, the data can be used to monitor cost associated with drug therapy. Thirdly, drug usage data can be used to investigate problems related to drug safety. According to WHO (1973), drug utilization was defined as the marketing, distribution, prescription, and use of drugs in a society, with special emphasis on the resulting medical, social, and economic consequences. In the developed countries, defined daily dose (DD) was used as an indicator of drug utilization or as unit of measurement. This study will attempt to assess drug consumption in Kabupaten Musi Rawas especially antituberculosis and antimalaria drugs by using DDD methodology, it has been found that drug consumption for rifampisin 300 mg is 0.2 DDD/1000/days; ethambuthol 250 mg is 0.5 DDD/1000/days; isonazid (INH) 100 mg is 1.6 DDD/1000/days; and klorokuin 250 mg is 0.7 DDD/1000/days. The use of INH is the highest (320 to 640 individuals were exposed to INH 300 mg) among antituberculosis drugs and the use of klorokuin is slightly high (224 individuals were exposed to klorokuin 500 mg).
