The Characteristics of Infected Abortion (Karakteristik Abortus Infeksiosus)
Objective : To identify the characteristics of the patients with infected abortion. Design/data identification : Retrospective, 2 years, from January 1, 1991 - December 31, 1992. Study selection : Age, parity, marital status, provider, sort of abortion, results of the culture. Subject, patients, participants : Thirty-nine out of 1956 abortion cases at Dr. Kariadi Hospital. Results : There were 39 (1.99 percent) cases at Dr. Kariadi Hospital. The patients were mostly 20-29 years old, 26 (66.66 percent) cases, the parity more than 3 was 19 (48.1 percent) cases. Parity 0 was 12 (30.76 percent) cases, unmarried status was 19 (25.64 percent) cases. Most of the infected abortion cases resulted from illegal abortion, i.e. 28 (71.74 percent) cases and those performed by traditional birth attendants were 25 (89.25 percent) cases. The results of secrete culture of externum uterine ostium were Escheria coli in 5 (26.34 percent) cases. The mortality caused by infected abortion was 3 (0.15 percent) cases. The age of pregnancy was in variation between 6 and 12 weeks. Evacuation conducted after the administration of antibiotic protection within 6 hours was 1 (15.38 percent) case, within 12 hours 16 (41.02 percent) cases, and more than 12 hours 12 (43.60 percent) cases. Conclusions : Even though it was not statistically significant (p more than 0.05), there was a tendency that febris occurance was more frequent and its treatment took a longer time in the cases whose surettage was longer than 6 hours.
