Effect of Pare Fruit Extract (Momordica chatanlia) of 750 mg to 2.000 mg/kg Body Weight toward Sperm Count and Motility of LMR Strain Male Rat (Pengaruh Pemberian Ekstrak Buah Pare Dosis 750 mg/kg BB Sampao Dosis 2000 mg/kg BB terhadap Jumlah dan Motilitas Spermatozoa Tikus Jantan Strain LMR)

The purpose of this study is to know the effect of Pare fruit extract (Momordica chatanlia) toward fertility of male rat. Twenty four male rat of LMR strain is devided into 8 groups of 3. Each rat is provided orally with Pare fruit extract every morning with doses of 750 mg, 1500 mg, 1250 mg, 1500 mg and 2000 mg/kg body weight. One group is treated with 0.5 ml CMC 1 percent and another group is used as control without any treatment. After completion of treatment the rats were anesthesized with ether followed by resection of their as deferents to determine number and motility of the spermatozoa. The result shows that provision of Pare fruit extract of 1250 to 2000 mg/kg body weight decreased significantly the count and motility of the spermatozoa (p less than 0.01). Those treated with or less than 1500 mg/kg body weight shows no influence (p less than 0.01). The higher the doses provided the bigger the decrease of both the count and mortality of the spermatozoa.
