The Evaluation of Early Pregnancy Health by Ultrasonography Transvaginal (Pemantauan Kesehatan Kehamilan Dini dengan Ultrasonografi Transvaginal)
Objective : To evaluate conditions of pregnancy health, particularly during the first trimester. Design/data identification : Case study, longitudinal prospective, from January 1988 to December 1988, and from January 1990 until December 31, 1991 (3 years). Setting : Outpatient clinic of Rosiva Maternal and Child Hospital, Medan. Subject, patients, participans : Pregnant women admitted for treatment at Polyclinic of RSIA, Medan. Main outcome measures : To detect gestation sac and measure its diameter by obtaining the mean figure from the three dimension measurement, i.e. cranio-caudal, antero-posterion and tranversal. To evaluate the development of pregnancy by detecting the embryo's heart beat, re-evaluating diameter of gestation sac and measuring the uterus size. Results : To detect yolk sac, fetal pole, and the embryo's heartbeat by means of USG in order to identify the health conditions of early pregnancy. The measurement of uterus size corraborated the evidence with regard to the conditions of pregnancy health. The average uterus size of 115 cases at the pregnancy age of 6 weeks was 87, approximately 9.0, of 132 cases at the pregnancy age of 7 weeks was 95, approximately 9.0 and of 52 cases at the pregnancy of 8 weeks was 100, approximately 2.0. Conclusions : Ultrasonic examination is able to evaluate the health status of pregnancy by monitoring and measuring the size of uterus, gestational sac, detecting the embrionic heart beat and differentiating with the pathologic pregnancy.
