The Early Detection of Lung Cancer by Cytology Sputum Examination (Deteksi Dini Tumor Ganas Paru-paru Secara Sitologi Sputum)
The incidence of lung malignancies gradually increase. Mostly lung cancers detected in a late stage as a result of extensive spreading locally and or distant metastases. It will be easy to detect when lesions reach a sufficient size to ulcerate into a bronchus. Cytology sputum could give high acuracy diagnoses, in early stage so the aim of this study was to determine the effectivity of cytology sputum examination. A retrospective study on 124 patients were carried out, there suspected diagnosed as malignant lung tumour. All patients were evaluated with sputum cytology, the samples consist of 36 women and 88 men. By using Papanicoloau classification the result were 58.0 percent negative, 6.5 percent suspected and 9.7 percent positive. There was 36.3 percent sputum specimens false negative. These findings demonstrate that sputum cytology was easy to examine and gave a good enough result.
