The Determination of the Effectivity and Efficiency of Dilapan with Laminira Japonicum as Servical Dilator on the First and Second Trisemester of the Pregnancy Termination (Perbandingan Efektivitas dan Efisiensi Dilapan dengan Laminaria Japonicum sebagai Dilator Serviks pada Terminasi Kehamilan Trimester I dan II)
The utility of cervix dilator for pregnancy termination in the first and the second trimester is needed if the cervix undilatated. Effectivity and efficiency of dilator influence the outcome of the termination. Several of dilators which are common : Laminaria japonicum and Hegar dilator. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectivity and efficiency of the new cervical dilator Dilapan. The clinical trial method is with sample from 'consecutive admission'. Subject of this study were 62 patients, in the first and second trimester of pregnancy with Hidatidiform Mole, IUFD. Missed Abortion and Blighted Ovum. Those patients were terminated in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung. The study carried out from 1st April - 30th September 1995. The samples were divided in two groups. Dilapan was used in the first group and Laminaria japonicum was in the second group. Before and after using cervical dilator the size of cervix dilatation was measured by Hegar, and side effects were evaluated. The statistical analyses were Chi square, Fisher test and t test. The mean result of the cervical dilatation after 4 hours implantation for Dilapan and Laminaria japonicum were 13.7 plus/minus 1.9 mm and 8.5 plus/minus 0.7 mm, respectively. There was no difference in side effect between the two dilators. As conclusion : Dilapan is more effective and efficient than Laminaria japonicum in dilatating the cervix in the first and second trimester of pregnancy.
