Situation of Breastfeeding Especially Exclusive Breastfeeding on Working Women Around Textile Factory in Five Subdistricts at Bandung, 1995 (Situasi Pemberian ASI Terutama ASI Eksklusif pada Wanita di Sekitar Pabrik Tekstil di Lima Kecamatan Wilayah Kabupaten Bandung Tahun 1995)

Cross sectional study to know the situation of breastfeeding especially exclusive breastfeeding, and factors influencing duration of 'breastfeeding only' in working women at textile factory and non working women, around textile factory had been done at five Kecamatan Kabupaten Bandung. Respondents were chosen by random statrified to 300 women who have babies between 4-12 months old divided into 200 working women and 100 non working women. Exclusive breastfeeding was given only in 3.6 percent, while most respondent gave combination of breastmilk + formula milk + supplement food before the baby reached 4 months old (59.6 percent). Most respondents gave prelacteal beverage as soon as the babies were born (76.7 percent). Factors influenced the duration of breastfeeding only in working women were : mother's education, husband's participation, formulated milk promotion, working mother behavior to breastfeeding problems, duration of working hour per week (more than 40 hours) and facillity for keeping breastmilk at working place (p less than 0.001). Exclusive breastfeeding covered only small number of working women and non working women around textile factory in Kabupaten Bandung.
