The Correlation between the Lepromin Test and Serologic Test Result in Household Contacts of Leprosy Patients (Hubungan antara Hasil Uji Lepromin dan Hasil Uji Serologis pada Kontak Serumah Penderita Kusta)
A cross secttional study of household contacts of leprosy patients had been done in Pare-pare Regency during July to September 1994. The objective of this study is to know the correlation of age, sex, duration of contact and type of leprosy as the source of household contact to the result of serologic and lepromin tests and the correlation between the lepromin test and serologic test in household contacts of leprosy patients. Another objective of this study is to find out household contacts with positive for serologic test but negative for lepromin test to select them for early diagnosis of leprosy. The study included 124 household contacts of leprosy patients, consisted of 54 men and 70 women. Classification of leprosy patients are derived according to the World Health Organization criteria, the lepromin test was done and evaluated by Mitsuda reaction whereas serologic test was done by MLPA, was positive if antibody titer more than 1:32. The result of this study indicated that there were no significant correlation between the lepromin test and serologic test (p more than 0.10), no significant correlation between duration of contact, age, the type of leprosy as the source household contact and sex to the lepromin test and serologic test (p more than 0.10) and there were 9 persons (23.7 percent) indicated infection of M. leprae.
