The Effect of Sodium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate Paste on Gingivitis (Pengaruh Klinis Pasta Sodium Khlorida dan Sodium Bikarbonat terhadap Radang Gingiva)

A double blind clinical trial to assess the effect of sodium chioride and sodium bicarbonate paste against gingival inflammation was carried outin 77 patients. The study shawed significant reduction in gingival inflammation. The reduction of gingival inflammation was 46 percent at day 7 and 77 percent at day 14. The contact between oral cavity hypertonic solution and bacteria tend to with draw water from living cell, so suoressing the viability. Hypertonic solution inhibit cell growth and motility of oral spirochetes which is the dominant microorganism in gingival inflammation/periodontal disease.
