A Study of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy on Respondents of the 'MONICA-Jakarta' Baseline Survey in Southern Jakarta (Studi Penebalan Ventrikel Kiri pada Responden Survei Dasar 'MONICA-JAKARTA' di Jakarta Selatan)
Of 2,073 respondents from MONICA-Jakarta (1988) baseline survey in South Jakarta, there were 74 (3.6 percent) respondents with left ventricular hypertrophy. Left ventricular hypertrophy was identified by electrocardiogram recording of 12 leads, fulfilling Minnesote Code (1982) : 3-1, 3-3 and 3-4. Population of left ventricular hypertrophy mainly consist of 52 (70.3 percent) male, 56 (75.7 percent) above the age of 40 years, 27 (36.5 percent) with systolic hypertension more than or equal to 160 mmHg and 41 (55.4 percent) respondents excercise more than or equal to 3 time a week. Although 13 (0.063 percent) out of 2,073 MONICA-Jakarta respondents was found with ventricular premature beats fulfilling Minnesota Code (1982): 8-1-2 and 8-1-3, no one was identified with left ventricular hypertrophy. The evidence of left ventricular hypertrophy as a risk factor of ventricular tachycardia sudden cardiac death should be investigated among the hypertension respondents by 24 hours ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter), resting or exercise electrocardiogram (Treadmill test) and echocardiography.
