Psychiatrical Emergency (Kedaruratan Psikiatri)
Psychiatric emergency is different from other emergencies in the medical field because it involves other people and their surroundings and it can endanger the patient himself. Generally, patient with psychiatric emergency tend to commit suicide and to be excited. The first thing to do is to be able to diagnose the cases and treat them according to their etiologies. Patients with acute intoxication which mostly caused by insecticides containing organophosphate should be treated with atropin injection 2 mg every 15 minutes. Intoxication by other agents should be treated with their antagonists. Psychiatric evaluation should be performed since there are almost always a mental emotional background which drives them to take ingest the toxic agents. During the admission, the patients should be closely observed. Patients who are excited usually heve delirium or functional psychosis. Therefore administration or neuroleptics, doctor attitudes and standard procedures of patients should be carefully considered. It is also important to give attention to the safety of the health workers and the environment of emergency unit.
