A simple short research on the nutrition status of underfive years children of Java and Madura origin is conducted at the end of 1995 in goitre endemic area of Malang regency, East Java Province, Indonesia. The aim of this study is to depict the influence of residential health environment toward nutrition status of the two tribes and to provide local government with relevant information of this specific problems. The result was very surprising, because both tribes were malnourish with their own specific problems. The Javanese children nutrition status is significantly quite lower than the Maduranese children. It is suggested that a public health course on public nutrition and environmental sanitation should be carried out to the two tribes.
