Typhoid Fever Relaps (Kekambuhan Penyakit Demam Tifoid)
Relaps often occur in typhoid fever. The main cause is the existence of Salmonella typhi that prevails within phagocyte cell in which chloramphenicol fails to enter. The purpose of this research is to find the prevalence of typhoid fever relaps. To determine the prevalence, a cohort study was carried out in Surabaya municipality for a period of two years (1992-1993). The first year is used for observation and case finding and the second year is for monitoring. Samples taken were those who suffered from typhoid fever. Diagnostic is established by clinical, laboratory and microbiological examination. Out of 108 patients with positive gall culture 85.18 percent had succesfully evaluated. Among these, typhoid fever relaps was found 13.04 percent. Environmental sanitation and economical condition might play important role in the relaps of the disease.
