The Plant Medicinal Survey for Cancer and its Infusion Influence on the Growth of Breast Cancer in C3H Strain Mice (Survei Beberapa Tanaman Obat yang Digunakan Untuk Kanker dan Pengaruh Pemberian Infusnya terhadap Pertumbuhan Tumor Kelenjar Susu pada Mencit Galur C3H)

Cancer is a problem in Indonesia and its mortality rate is increasing. According to the Cancer Registration Council, in Indonesian women breast cancer is ranked second after cervix cancer. A medicinal plant which is called Jeruju (Acanthus ilicifolius) has been thought by traditional healers in Pasuruan and Probolinggo as effective for the treatment of breast cancer. A study has been done to investigate its effect on the growth of breast cancer in C3H strain mice. The medicinal plant was given by oral infusion. From this study it is concluded that the administration of Jeruju up to 8,000 mg/kg BW. caused no growth inhibition of mice breast cancer; but microscopically there was an improvement.
