Pharmacology Analysis of Antihypertensive Combination (Analisis Farmakologi Kombinasi Antihipertensi)
In order to obtain an optimal therapeutic effect, some antihypertensive agents should be coadministered. We conducted a survey on prescriptions containing antihypertensive agents which were prescribed in the period of July, August and September 1994 in Medan. In the present study, it was found that 23.7 percent of the prescribtions (2555 sheets) contained some antihypertensive agents. whereas 573 prescriptions were combinations of 2 antihipertensive agents. The most common combinations were (1) a Ca-antagonist and an ACE-inhibitor (44.0 percent); (2) a diuretic and an ACE-inhibitor (13.3 percent) and (3) a diuretic an a Ca-antagonist (11.3 percent). The antihipertensive combinations consisted of 2 agents with (1) an idential mechanism of action (47 sheets); (2) a similar effect, such as (a) Sasodiletion (307 sheets), (b) negative inotropic (5 sheets), (c) central simpatholytic (1 sheet), and (d) increasing potassium level (2 sheets; and (3) different mechanisms of action.
