Peridiontitis Prevalence and their Treatment Need in the Elderly (Prevalensi Penyakit Periodontium dan Kebutuhan Akan Perawatannya pada Orangtua Menggunakan C.P.I.T.N.)
Peridontitis is one of the most widespread chronic disease all over the world. In adults over 35 years old, periodontal disease is the main causes of tooth loss. According to WHO, the critical age of tooth lengevity in relation to periodontal destruction is 50 years. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence and severity of periodontal disease in elderly as to determine their treatment needs. A number of 153 persons (male and female) were collected from six old folks homes. Probing depths. bleeding on probing, calculus and plaque were determined according to the community periodontal index of treatment needs (C.P.I.T.N.). It is revealed that in elderly population group in general there is a high prevalence of periodontal disease in different degrees of the subjects, but only few individuals suffer from severe generalized periodontal destruction.
