AIDS Education on Senior High School in Central Java (Pendidikan Pencegahan AIDS pada Siswa Sekolah Menengah di Jawa Tengah)
In respone to the lack of AIDS education program in Indonesia, an intervention research has been conducted to obtain a teaching material on AIDS education for Senior and Junior High School in central Java. A draft of AIDS education manual for teachers and students has been developed, consist of information about AIDS/HIV including sign and symptoms, modes of transmission and source of infection; STDs; Adolescent health, HIV/AIDS prevention and the role of students in its program. Try out by giving the material of AIDS prevention education and the development of lecture schedule items (satuan acara pengajaran/SAP) has been done through the first workshop, which was participalities in by teachers from Junior and senior high school in Semarang, Surakarta and Purwokerto municipalities. As the follow up of this activity, intervention addressed to the students was conducted by teachers by utilizing package system and inserted system through the existing subjects (biology, sport and health, etc). The intervention activity was evaluated at the second workshop. Feed backs resulted regarding these activities are: (1) The materials of this book are good enough eventhough requires simplification especially for junior high school level (2) Lecturing method by utilizing package system to the representative students or to the large number of students in a big class was generally done by teachers. A few of them also using inserted system especially through the subject of biology and religious education. (3) In line with SAP, package system A has required 5-6 hours to convery all materials. It is suggested to conduct AIDS prevention education at the beginning of school programme coincide with the P4 training (4) The students, principal and other teachers generally have good impression on this programme and it is suggested to exo and this program to all of the teachers and students. (5) The evaluation of knowledge, attitude and behaviour showed a significant difference (p more than 0.0001) between trained teachers/students and untrained teachers/students. Suggestion: The manual of AIDS prevention education must be disseminated as soon as possible and should be added with ilustrated supplement for students guidance manual.
