The Use of Reagen Fehling for Detecting of Urine Bilirubine (Penggunaan Reagen Fehling untuk Mendeteksi Bilirubin dalam Urine)
Detecting bilirubin the urine plays an important role in diagnostic approach to the patient with jaundice. If there is no facilities to examine serum bilirubin, detection bilirubin in the urine can determine whether jaundice is predominantly due to conjugated or unconjugated hyper bilirubinemia. In this research, it had been studied a new technique to examine bilirubin in the urine. It had been tried the use of Fehling reagent for detecting urine bilirubin. Apparently, by mixed 0.5 ml Fehling A, 0.5 ml Fehling B, and 1 ml water into 0.5 ml urine specimen which contains bilirubin, would produced a mixture with specific dark green color. The diagnostic performance of this new method had been tested on 105 urine sample, with Bilur-test as a Gold Standard test. The sensitivity of this tes was 64 percent, specificity was 98.75 percent, positive preadictive value was 94.5 percent, negative preadictive value was 89.77 percent, and efficiency was 90.48 percent. It was compared with Harrison method. This method was more sensitive, easier and faster to do, more simple, and cheaper in cost than Harrison method.
