Prisons also Function as correctional institutes, places where inmates receive guidance. Somehow s8ch a place need to be operated and maintained to prevent the transmission of diseases among inmates. The investigation was aimed at studying the condition of basic sanitary facilities at the correctional institutes. Data were gathered through interviews, measurements and laboratory examination, followed by descriptive analyses of the collected data. The sanitary condition of the detainment cells were satisfactory, however almost all basic sanitary facilities, except refuse bins, have not met health requirements. Improvements are needed on sanitary facilities in addition to education campaign leading to the prevention of environment-based diseases.
