Karakteristik Tumor Mediastinum Berdasarkan Keadaan Klinis, Gambaran CT Scan dan Petanda Tumor di Rumah Sakit Persahabatan.

The aims of this study are to explain clicinal characterisistics, CT scan appearances and tumor marker of the mediastinal tumor patients when the result of pathological anatomy exam is doubtful. So that physicians can conclude the diagnosis of the mediastinal tumor. The method of this study is a cross sectional survey which located in Pershabatan Hosital. East Jakarta, Indonesia. The data are collected retrospectively in 5 years from January 2002 until December 2006. The data were analyzed using SPSS 13 program. Descriptive data are presented with text and table. The number of subjects are 98 cases with 69(70,4%) male. The youngest is 13 years old the oldest is 69 years old. The mean of age is 36, 5. Eighty seven (88,7%) persons shows respiratory symptoms with mostly cough 68(78,1%) persons. Nonrespiratory symptoms are found on 59(60.2%) persons with mostly weight loss 45(76.2%). Eight (13.5%) person came without any complains. Twenty eight (36,3%) persons had myasthenia gravis. According to pathological exam, mediastinal tumors are divided into thymoma 37(37,%) persons, gem cell tumor 10(10.2%), teratoma 20(20,4%), seminoma 4(41%(, nonseminoma 1(1%), lymphoma 13(13,3%), other mediastinal malignancy 10(10,2%) non-malignant mediastinal tumor 3(3,1%). According to location of the tumors, there are 92 cases are located in anterior region, 4 in media region and 2 in posterior region. Tumor marker arise on patients with germ cell mediastinal malignancy. Mediastinal tumor has age specific characteristic on mediastinal teratome and thymoma. There is specific clinical characteristic on thymoma as myasthenia gravis. On this patients with myasthenia gravis has 2,78 times thymoma. Chest x ray is important to determine location of the mediastinal tumor. Alpha fetoprotein, ß-HCG and LDH are important for germ cell mediastinal tumors.
