Efek Extrak Daun Legundi (Vites trifolia Linn) Iradiasi terhadap Pertumbuhan Bakteri Bacillus subtilis, Excherichia coli dan Salmonella typhi (Effect of Traditional Legundi Leaves (Vitex trifolia Linn) Extract on the growth Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia Coli and Salmonella typhi)
A research on the effect of traditional legundi leaves extract against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi has been done. Leaves of legunfi were tested for recovering of some diseases i.e. malnutrition, stiff of stomach, cough, injury, tonsil inflammation, child’s fever, whooping cough, and tuberculosis, however supports of scientific data was not satisfactory. B. subtilis, and E. coli are normal sin flora, but they can becoming pathogens that cause pioderma, whereas S. typhi is a pathogenic bacteria to human being and animal. The objective of this research was to know the effect of irradiated legundi leaves extract on the growth of those bacteria. Dry legundi leaves powder was extracted by percolation method using ethanol 96%. The extract was irradiated by using gamma rays ⁶⁰Co at various doses of 0, 10, 15, 25 kGy and at dose rate of 8 kGyh. The determination of extract activity to bacteria was done by diffusion method to know the inhition zone and dilution to know the minimum inhibition concentration (MIC). Result of the research showed that the irradiated of legundi leaves extract inhibit the growth of those three bacteria. The widest diameter of inhition zone of 100% traditional extract at 25 kGY was found in the culture of 5 typhi (25 mm), whereas the lowest MIC was notice in the culture of B subtilis (9%).
