Cyclospora Cayetanensis Related to Diarrhea (Cyclospora Cayetanensis sebagai Penyebab Diare)
In recent years a newly recognised organism has been identified in cases of prolonged diarrhea. The organism was reported in immunologically competent cases such as travellers and also in patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Initially the organism was called CLB (Cyanobacteria-like bodies or Coccidian-like bodies). Furthermore several studies reported that it was most probably a coccidian and the name Cyclospora cayetanesis has been prosed. Morfologically C. cayetanensis resembles that of Isospora and Crytosporidium which are other causes of diarrhea. C. cayetanensis lives intra-epithelially in the small intestine. Transmission, method of infection, the complete life cycle, pathogenic mechanism and the effective treatment remain unknown. There is obviously a great deal more to learn about this new pathogen. The aim of this paper is to provide information about a new organism that might cause diarrhea in man.
