In Cirebon distric (2005) researcr on village midwives’s experience in managing birt5th asph
Ysia showed mortality of newborns with asphysia who were referred to the hospitals were still high. This researcr was aimed to assess referal process, management procedure of referal birth asphysia cases and quality of care given in the referal hospitals. This study was conducted using qualitative approach focusing on case study method. The result of this study showed that village midwives managed birth asphysia correctly, but referral of newbom cases was offen delayed, because of community factors (finance and delayed decision making by whole family to refer the newbom to the hospitals) and environmental factor (trasportation in remote villages was difficult, especially at night. Besides that, referal hospitals were not yet providing adequate emergency care for referal cases of birth asphysia. There were primanily due to lack of skills in management of birth asphysia and unavailability of resuscitation device in emergency room.
