High Resolution Sonography Appearance of a Parathyroid Adenoma : A Case Report (Gambaran Ultrasonografi Resolusi Tinggi pada Adenoma Paratiroid : Sebuah Laporan Kasus)
The incidence of primary hyperparathyroidism in children under the age of sixteen remains rate and most cases were caused by single parathyroid adenomas. We report a case of fifteen years old girl with primary hyperparathyroidism caused by a single parathyroid adenoma. This is the first case reported for Pediatric Department of Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital diagnosed mainly by means of Color Doppler Flow Imaging Ultrasound. In recent years high resolution sonography has been well established as a non invasive imaging method used in the evaluation of treatment, accurate preoperative localization and also has been used to guide fine needle aspiration biopsy of suspected parathyroid adenomas. The Sonographic appearance of a parathyroid adenoma, accurancy and pitfalls in interpretation is discussed. It was concluded that high resolution sonography has assumed increased clinical importance with more extensive use. Radiologists and referring clinicians should use the technique which they are most comfortable with and the most confident.
