The Comparation between the Utilization and Unutilization of Nasogastric Pipe through the Recover Velocity of Gastrointestine Function on Elective Abdomen Postsurgery (Perbandingan Kecepatan Pulih Fungsi Saluran Cerna antara Tanpa Pipa Nasogastrik dengan Memakai Pipa Nasogastrik pada Pasca Bedah Abdomen Elektif)
Although the recent research concluded that naso-gastric tube (NGT) is no longer necessary for elective abdominal surgery, up till now a lot of surgeon are still using it. To clear this doubt, a randomized controlled trial in Dept. of Surgery Dr. Kariadi Hospital/Diponegoro Medical Faculty, Semarang has been done. Forty eight elective abdominal surgery patients randomized in two group; nasogastric (NGT) group and non-nasogastric (non-NGT) one. Post-operative observation including : when do peristaltic, flatus, tolerance to oral intake and mobilization of patient start, and increasing the perimeter of the abdomen. The peristaltic and flatus appear significantly earlier in non-NGT group (p=0.042 and p=0.22 repectively) compared to NGT group although the increasing of the abdominal perimeter in the day 2 and 3 significantly higher (p=0.003 and p=0.06 respectively). The tolerance for oral intake and mobilization also appear significantly earlier in non-NGT group (p=0.001 and p=0.017 respectively). It is concluded that without NGT after elective abdominal surgery, the gastrointestinal function including peristaltic, flatus and the tolerance to oral intake appear earlier compared to using NGT. Therefore the patient can be mobilized earlier too.
