Antibacterial Effect on Tea through the Bacteria which caused the Gastrointestinal Diseases (Efek Antibakteri Teh terhadap berbagai Bakteri Penyebab Gangguan pada Saluran Cerna)
There are three major types of tea : green tea which is a non fermented processed tea, black tea which is processed through a fermentation and 'oolong', a partial fermented processed. When extracted, tea yields fractions of polyphenol (tannine) and nontannine. Tannine fraction demonstrates antibacterial effects whereas non tannine has no such activities. It was reported that polyphenol fraction inhibited the growth of several entric bacteria in addition to its protective nature againts some toxin. Although these effects can be found in those three types of tea, black tea shows a greater antibacterial activity. Thus, for a diarrheal disease, tea is recommended to take as a low-cost prevention or treatment.
