Perubahan Morfologi Spermatozoa pada Pria Terpapar Emisi Gas Buang Kendaraan Bermotor (Sperm Morphology Change in Men Exposed to Motor Vahicle Gas Emission)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate sperm morphology and the blood lead (Pb)levels in men occupationally exposed to motor vehicle gas emission. This research was cross section study of 30 men non-occupationally exposed as control living in the same area. Semen was analyzed following World Health Organization (WHO) procedure and blood lead levels was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The result showed that mean of sperm morphology was significantly lower in exposed workers versus controls. Mean levels of sperm morphology was significantly lower in exposed workers), and 50,53 ± 841% (controls) Mean blood lead levels were significantly higher in exposed workers, i.e.1.8 times higher than in controls (168.22±28.68µg/L. Blood lead levels were inversely correlated with sperm morphology. In conclusion, blood lead levels have adversely affected sperm morphology, are inversely correlated with sperm morphology, and are below the WHO recommended health limit for occupational lead exposure in male subjects.
