Klasifikasi dan Teknik Klasifikasi Bakteri Leptospira
Leptospirosis is a disease caused by Leptospira and spreads throughout the world especially in the
tropical and subtropical countries with high humidity. However, reported number of the cases in human
is very low as it is unrecognized by clinicians. Based on serology, there are more than 250 known
serovars of Leptospira. This classification is very valuable for clinicians and epidemiologists for
surveillance purposes. Currently, classification based on gene differences of each serovar has been
made. This classification group based on gene difforences is known as genomospecies. This
classification is more accurate compared to the serotype/serovar-based classification because gene
differences can be identified precisely. Therefore, classification-based genomospecies can be utilized as
Leptospira taxonomy in the future.
Key words: Leptospira, classification, serovars, genonospecies.
