Pathogenicity Test of Bacillus thuringiensis Isolated from Euphoria Longan Soil on Vector Larvae in Laboratory Setting (Uji Patogenisitas Bacillus thuringiensis yang diisolasi dari Tanah Pohon Kelengkeng (Euphoria longan) terhadap Jentik Nyamuk Vektor di Laboratorium)
A study to evaluate the potency of bacteriae from soil sample as biological Vector Control Research Station at Salatiga. Protein crystals were detected by Chilcott
Wigley's method (1988). Samples of soil from 5 different locations in Kotamadya Salatiga, were evaluated. Total of 6 samples collected from 2 habitats (hole and branch of Euphoria longan), 1 samples from Butuh, 2 samples from Conden Timur, 1 sample from Karangduwet, 1 sample from Banyuputih and 1 sample from Imam Bonjol. Bacteriological evaluation showed that 4 out of 10 B. thuringiensis isolates and 5 out of 10 B. thuringiensis were pathogenic on more than 50 percent Aedes aegypty instar III larvae afer 24 and 48 hours of exposure. One isolate (24-hours exposure) and 3 isolates (48-hours exposure) were pathogenic on more than 50 percent Culex quinaquefasciatus. This study showed the possibility of utilization of B. thuringiensis as a biological control for mosquito larvae population.
