Peran Aktivitas Fisik Terhadap Kendali Gula Darah pada Anggota Persadia RS Husada
The role of physical activity for glycemic control among PERSADIA members in Husada Hospital.
Many studies have proven the beneficial effects of physicial activities on glycemic control among diabetic type 2 patients as such that it is considered as 1 of 4 pilars in diabetic management However, the recommendation made by ADA-ACSM is that of moderate intensity physicial activites. Persadia has developed aerobic-diabetes excerise needs of patients. The research’s objective is to compare the effect of physical activities on glycemic control between members of Persadia and diabetic patients who visited polyclinic in Husada Hospital Jakarta. This prospective cohort research had passed the ethical board of the faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia and was conduced from 12 November 2007 – 9 April 2008 among 95 diabetic type 2 patients who had signed the informed consent. Sample were obtained from Persadia and diabetes polyclinic in Husada Hospital, Jakarta by way of consecutive non random sampling. Multivariate analysis using Cox Proportional Hazards Regression was done by STATA software 9.2 version. Subjects from diabetes polyclinic had 1.11 times higher risk of poor glycemic control compared to Persadia (HR=1.11;95%C10.52-2.35) Althugh this finding was not statistically significant, it deserved some attention considering the ecercise being conduced was that of lom-impact. The protective effect in Persadia group indicated that low impact exercices were sufficient to control blood glucose in addition, non differential misclassification from physical activity measurement tended to underistimate the strength of association. Thus the actual protective effect of low-impact exercise should be higher than the result found in this study
