Beban Anemia Gizi Ibu Hamil di Indonesia (The Burden Among the Pregnant Women in Indonesia)
During pregnancy, there is an incease demond of nutritions to meet the needs of expecting mothers and foetus. Devietion from several nutritive needs during pregnancy causes expecting mothers to experience malnutrition. Iron deficiency is one of the most frequent occurring deficiency among expecting mothers. Iron deficiency and bleeding are the main causes of anemia among expecting mothers. It is estimated that less than 50% expecting mothers do not have adequate iron reserve throughout their period of pregnancy. Iron deficiency contributers to as high as 95% to theprevalence of anemia among expecting mothers. I Indonesia, almost half of pregnant mothers (41%) experience anemia (SKRT 2001). Eventhough programs such as iron supplementation, iron fortication and dietaly strategy to enhance iron intake, as well as food base intervention have been implemented, yet to date prevalence of anemia among pregnant mother is still high. Ministry of Health RI and UNICEF reported that out 4 million pregnant in 2005 mothers half have anemia whist 1 million others have chronic energy deficiency (KEK). It is for that reason a smart and innovative effort is needed to eversome nutrition problems among pregnant mothers (anemia) which is a chronic problem very difficults to evercome, while paying close attention to several local including the culture among the people.
