A five years (January 1991 through December 1995) study on teenager pregnancy which occured in 15 to 19 years-old adolescents has been conducted in Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung. During the period we found 125 cases of teenage pregnancy or 0.76 percent of the total labor assisted. Fifty-four (43.6 percent) of the cases were with anemia, 28 (21.4 percent) had preeclampsia/eclampsia and 10 cases (8.0 percent) had narrow pelvis. Fourty-three (34.4 percent) cases ended in force labor. Of all births to adolescents, 33 (26.4 percent) babies were born with low birth weight and 12 (9.6 percent) died perinatally. During the labor process 17 (13.6 percent) cases developed post-partum complications and 2 (1.6 percent) died after delivering the babies. This data shows that the consequences of child bearing for teenage or adolescent mothers and their babies are severe.
